Introduction

Domino QQ, also known as Qiu Qiu or Domino 99, is a card game that is really really popular in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. It’s related to pai gow, which is a renowned Chinese domino gambling game. For some people, it can be a little confusing to get the hang of this game if you are new to this kind of game but once you do, it’s so much fun and addicting! For the starters, this game is played with 28 double-six dominoes card. Unlike in the US, the dominoes in Indonesia are usually a cheap paper small cards that are thrown away after a while because they show signs of wear and played too much. Usually, all players have to put a certain amount of bet into the pot. This amount will vary and it could be a low bet or a high one depending on where you play this game. Once everyone puts their bets into the pot, each player is dealt 3 dominoes. Once everyone start looks at their domino cards, they can do 1 of 4 things. If there is no previous better they can bet but if there is a previous better then they can do call, raise, fold or also All In.

During the start of the first round, if only one person bets, then they take the winning pot without having to show their hand. If there was more than one person, then everyone who didn’t fold will get dealt a 4th card. Once the last card is dealt, the last round of betting happens. Most of the time, both rounds have a betting limit time and the second round usually has a longer time limit. At the end of this final round, all players who didn’t fold have to show their hands. The player with the highest or the best hand takes the winning pot. The rules is also almost same as the Holdem Poker game.

Cards are put into pairs and the pips are counted together and only the second digit count is taken. For example, a total pip of the first 2 cards is 23 becomes 3 and a total pip of last 2 cards 17 becomes 7. With that being said, the highest pair is a pair 9 card, which gives the name of this hand Qiu Qiu. There are 3 kind of hand cards that will give you a higher score than a pair of 9s. Which is :

  • High Count – the total pips on 4 dominoes equals 38 or higher
  • Low Count – the total pips on 4 dominoes equal 9 or below
  • Double – 4 dominoes with all doubles card

One more hands that is above non-special hands but below double 9s is a straight. This is where all 4 domino card have consecutive pips. For the example, if the pips of each card equal 4, 5, 6, 7. Another kind of special hand is when you have the first 3 card as doubles and that’s referred to kid and the 4th card is alone.

If two players ends up having a straight or doubles, then the player with the higher double wins. If both have a straight but no doubles, then the player with the higher straight number wins. It’s just that simple.
